Liverpool Vs Manchester City Betting Preview – 09/04/2014

This Premier League weekend sees first place Liverpool face a visit from third place Manchester City, in what has become a hugely important fixture in the race for the title as the season enters its closing stages. Both teams enter the weekend on the back of a victory, Liverpool seeing off west ham 2-1 and City easing to a 4-1 win against Southampton.

For prolonged periods of the season the title was foresaw to sway between Chelsea and Manchester City, but Liverpool have ended up in the front row seat. An amazing run of form is showing how formidable they are under Rodgers, currently on a 14 game unbeaten run including 9 wins on the bounce. City have only lost once in their previous 10 fixtures, who like Liverpool have been in good form most of the season. It is certainly a match that you can see either team winning, but the home advantage sees Liverpool come out as the favourites to take the points. Their best bet to win comes from William Hill at 6/4, compared to City at 19/10. A win is obviously ideal for both teams, but a draw will suit Liverpool more than City providing they can overcome Chelsea who visit Anfield in two weeks time. The best bet for a draw is 27/10 from Bet365.

This fixture sees the two highest scoring Premier League sides this season come face to face, Liverpool with 90 and City with 84. The strikers in particular for both teams have been in excellent form. The form of both teams sees the goal scoring odds extremely similar on both sides. Suarez and Sturridge are both seen at 11/8 to score anytime, Suarez from SkyBet and Sturridge from BetFred respectively. Both players have hit the back of the net so consistently all season you can’t rule them out from scoring. Gerrard is having one of his best seasons in a Liverpool shirt, showing his age is just a number. 14 goals so far this season including both past West Ham last weekend see him at 11/4 from SkyBet to score. Aguero sees the same odds as his Liverpool counterparts at 11/8 from BetFred, who is likely to make his return from injury in a 5 game absence. 26 goals so far this season shows it will be a very welcome return. With  22 goals in total this season, Toure is actually City’s highest scorer in the League itself with 18, more than Aguero’s league tally with 15. SkyBet have Toure at the same odds as Gerrard at 11/4 to score anytime. Dzeko hasn’t scored as many as Negredo this season, but recent form has Dzeko scoring consistently whilst Negredo can’t seem to find the back of the net. Because of this, Dzeko looks to be the stronger bet from SkyBet at 2/1. The fact the odds are very similar across the board in this match, expect to see any number of these players write their names on the score sheet.
