Bayern Munich Vs Manchester United Betting Preview – 09/04/2014
The second legs for the Champions League quarter finals are under way midweek, with Bayern Munich facing their home visit from Manchester United after a tense 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last week.
It’s fair to say many people would have written Manchester United off when they drew Bayern in the quarter finals, but the first leg in Manchester proved the tie would not be as routine as expected. Bayern dominated the possession as expected, but United held their own and have a real chance to advance even further. However, Bayern still hold the upper hand thanks to their away goal, and they will be expected to perform at a higher standard in Germany. The general odds for Bayern to win are 1/4 from the likes of Bet365, BetFred and BetVictor, compared to United’s best bet at 12/1 from BetVictor. Bayern are the obvious favourites, but United’s recent away from has been the best in the Premier League so it is unlikely they will give Bayern an easy tie. It has to be said that United’s season thus far hasn’t been the most impressive, so despite recent signs of improvement and general warming up to the Moyes era, Bayern will look to finish this tie at home.
Coming into this fixture both teams are missing highly influential players. Bayern are without talismanic midfielder Schweinsteiger, their only scorer in the first leg, due to suspension. United are still without Van Persie through injury, Rooney is being assessed ahead of the game due to a toe injury, and Mata is of course cup tied. It is Bayern’s players that top the list for anytime goal scorers, their top scorer Mandzukic being seen at 4/5 from SkyBet. Mandzukic is the highest scorer in the Bundesliga so far this season with 17. Thomas Muller isn’t far behind with 12 this season, as well as 4 in the Champions League. His best bet to score comes from BetFred at 1/1. Robben and Ribery have both scored 3 so far in the Champions League this season and are always a threat. Both have the same odds to score from BetFred at 6/5. United will hope Rooney is passed fit for the match, as he is now joint top scorer with Van Persie this season with 17. His best bet comes from SkyBet at 4/1, a decent bet if he is indeed available to play. Alongside Rooney, United’s next best outlet could be Hernandez, who scored in their last fixture in the 4-0 win at Newcastle. SkyBet and BetFred both hold Hernandez at 5/1 to score anytime. Finally, Welbeck is United’s next best bet at 5/1, once again from SkyBet.
